GAZELLE
From the southern tip of Africa comes a new sound, moving and shaking the earth as it crosses distant lands. An eclectic mix of mysticism from the dark continent, psychedelic visions of Afro-futurism, theatre and music.
Gazelle is colorful part of the African Renaissance promoting the growth and worldview of any African born art. Apart from a fresh mixture of sound, a strong visual performance involving various artists and dancers makes it a very entertaining theatrical show.
Combining influences from funk, reggae, disco, 80's electropop and traditional African melody, the sound comes alive in a fresh genre. The group was born in 2006 following a long journey of discovery in music. Xander Ferreira, the founding member, started his journey as a reggae singer known as the White Lion. Originally from a remote part of South Africa, close the border of Mozambique, he grew up being a part of authentic South African culture in confusing but colorful times. Gazelle had it's breath of life when Xander started experimenting with producing a mixture of organic and electronic music. Mixing an element of Reggae Dub and Electro something fresh was found.
JACK PAROW
Jack Parow
Hallo, my name is Jack Parow. I like Afrikaans. I like rap. But rap is boring and swamped with people who don’t know what they are doing. I am here to show everyone how to do it right.
I make music with my friends. I like drinking, dangerous cars, dangerous parties, dangerous cherries, braai and rugby. My music makes you smile. My music makes you cry. My music makes you dance and my music makes you think.
I grew up in the streets of Bellville and Parow and in the Wonderland games arcade in Tyger Valley. I smoke Dunhill cigarettes and drink Wellington brandy. I don’t like soccer all that much, because I don’t understand the rules. I’m busy learning them, so hopefully I’ll like it soon. I don’t like people who don’t like Afrikaans.
My song "Die Vraagstuk" with Die Heuwels Fantasties explains me well, so listen to it. My music is honest. My name is Jack Parow, romantic Afrikaans super star rapper. Kief kief.
THE PLASTICS
In sound, The Plastics pay homage to retro-rock and classic pop imagery. The Plastics are a live performance orientated band and have already performed with the majority of South Africa’s most sought after musical acts. In their first year on the local music scene The Plastics claimed 1st prize at The Redbull Radar competition at Rocking the Daisies 2008 and were finalists in ‘The Road to V-Fest’ competition. They have just released two music videos for their songs ‘Tiny Islands’ and ‘Dirty Dancing’ and are fresh off a stellar performance at Rocking The Daisies 2009 in which they entertained during the headlining slot like festival veterans. The band has performed at Ramfest, Oppikoppi Easter ,Oppikoppi August, The Billabong Pro, Up the Creek, Synergy Rocking the Daisies (2008 and 2009) and have done three national tours to promote their second release ‘Kiss The Plastics’
The Plastics have been given a recording sponsorship with Sound and Motion Studios and are currently writing new material and exploring new sonic landscapes for their highly anticipated debut album. The album is the biggest project the band had ever embarked upon and because of this they have enlisted the services of internationally acclaimed music producer Gordon Raphael (the man behind the production of the first and second ‘The Strokes’ albums) Gordon will be recording and producing with the band during January 2010 at Sound and Motion. The album is entitled ‘Shark’ and will be available nationwide in 2010.
